TASSA held yet another successful conference on March 22-23, 2014 at the University of Maryland, where scholars, scientists, students, and individuals from various fields convened to learn about scientific and technological breakthroughs.

The conference opened with remarks given by Ozcan Aydodan, Program Chair of the Conference, Haluk Unal, President of TASSA, and Tugay Tuncer, Charge d’Affaires of the Turkish Embassy. The conference’s keynote speech presented by Kenan Sahin, President of TIAX, immediately followed setting the tone for the two-day conference. In his presentation, Sahin remarked on the phases of “imitation, invention, and implementation,” the challenges associated with each as well as the need for continuous development and discovery.
In comparison to TASSA’s previous conference held in 2012, more attention was placed on social-sciences as panelists discussed issues pertaining to Turkey; topics such as the involvement of women in science; circumstances impacting earthquakes in Turkey; the future of technoparks in Turkey; urban sustainability and hazard resilience and the internationalization of the Republic’s universities are such examples.
Nonetheless, the conference did not diverge from its tradition of underscoring science in its essential form, as several young scholars were awarded and recognized for their scientific research and contributions following Sahin’s keynote speech. The first day of the conference featured a classical music concert with Bairtone Singer, Hasan Yener and Pianist Yesim Alkaya Yener. All in all, TASSA’s 2014 conference featured much discussion, new insight into the latest breakthroughs in science, dire issues affecting Turkey across a broad spectrum, and entertainment. In its 2014 conference, TASSA unknowingly put forth a topic worthy of its very own dissertation and analysis: “The SCIENCE of Organizing a Successful Conference with Several Combined Elements.”
