On May 18, 2019, High School students from all over Washington DC metro area gathered at Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute to share best practices and brainstorm ways to reduce plastic and food waste in their schools and communities. The event was organized by the Smithsonian Conservation Commons in partnership with the Global Co Lab Network to build a local and global Eco Teen Action Network to support youth action on critical sustainability issues. TATV’s Courtney Clarke interviewed:

Coyle who works at Smithsonian managing the Conservation Commons and Earth Optimism programs; Linda Staheli, founder of the Global Co-Lab Network; Evie Wolf, a senior at School Without Borders High School, educating the public about plastic pollution; Beth Ebisch and Grace Eggleston, American University student filmmakers; and Matthew Capuano-Rizzo, a Columbia bound graduate of George C. Marshall HS.
Also, Janine Finnell, Executive Director of Leaders in Energy, spoke with Miriam Gennari about recycling plastics and Circular Economy. Miriam is a Global CoLab Mentor, a Filmmaker aka StyrofoamMom.

In the second part of the program, Asli Celikkol, a Freshman Volleyball Player at American University told TATV about her new life in the USA as a student athlete. She is recognized as the top Freshman of the Patriot League.
